Tela Aldwulf "Tela Aldwulf is the one you asked for, correct? An odd man, that he is, but he's currently out on a task for the Empire. Something about a rare illusion set of caves, I believe he said. I'll tell him that you were here." - Thomas Strongwood, Timhorty Librarian

Skills & Traits:
Quote :
Swordsmanship: After being employed with the Empire as one of its sanctioned explorers, and after being sponsored as well, Tela has received basic swordsmanship from Imperial trainers to ensure he isn't butchered by bands of bandits and rogues while on official business.
"Fight me, you treacherous bear! I have the Empire at my back!"
Quote :
Athletics: Tela, being a state-sanctioned mage and one of its sponsored explorers, is under constant physical stress as he explores the wilds and locations he is sent to. After many explorations and time spent away from the comfortable cities, Tela has developed a strong physical aspect of himself. "Well, when you've climbed through a series of cave-systems, you find that the bread you ate that morning doesn't tend to stay with you for long."
Quote :
Magic: Being trained at Enedhest, the Capital of the Empire, Tela has quite the in-depth knowledge of elemental magic at his disposal. While he left after he deemed his training sufficient enough to serve the Empire itself and is therefore not an expert, he is still quite an adept at his craft. "You see, in my line of work, almost all of us must be quite good at what we're talking about, or we may die. We prefer to make sure no one dies, so we all make sure that we're quite good at what we're talking about."

Drawbacks:
Quote :
Alchemy: Though Tela has been to a magical school, he did not study in the art of alchemy. The most thorough extent of his knowledge of alchemy would be guesses off of his current knowledge of magic. "Fascinating! How did you do that?"
Quote :
Curiosity: Curiosity is what drives man forward and wills him to innovate, but left unchecked as it has been with Tela, it can lead to a man's destruction. Tela has to be constantly reminded to not touch things, combine them together, or try to poke it with a very large stick. "What would happen... If I were pulse fire over the regenerating pool..."
Tasks & Goals: -Discover new magical artifacts -Establish relations with the locals -Attempt to discover the mystery of the black portal
The area around the campfire was quiet except for the crackling of the wood breaking apart in the heat. All of the men except for two had retired to their bedrolls to recover their energy for the rest of the journey. They were only a days journey from their destination, some other magical location that the Empire was interested in for one reason or another. One man, who sat close to the fire to utilize the most amount of its light held a book in his hand, reading and paying close heed to the details inscribed inside of its leather-bound spine. The other man sat far away, enough to be comfortable with the heat of the fire but not harming the flesh on his skin. The man turned his head and spoke out to his companion reading the book at the fire's edge, "Say, Tela, since you're leadin' this exploration, can you remind me of where we're going?"
The man by the fire, Tela, grunted and nodded his head in the direction of the man who spoke, but did not turn away from the book in his hand "Aye, I can. We're heading into the mountains, as it's said that there is where the answer to our mystery lies."
"Wha' mystery?"
"Lacio, were you not paying attention to what we were talking about at all back in Actinosus?"
"...Nah, I wasn'."
"Fine, I'll tell you again. Now pay attention closely this time, Lacio, because it is very important. We're searching for a null point in the worl-..."
"Wha's that mean, Tela?"
"If you would stop interrupting me, perhaps I could explain it to you."
"Right, sorry then."
"We are looking for a null point in the world where intersticy mages can not make portals to, which is why we have brought Cyne along. A mage recently reported it to the Actinosus School of Magic, and they have given us the task of going to the point in the mountains to run some tests on the location, such as if portals can be made from it, or if any other magic is effected in the area."
"Oh? I heard some stuff abou' this from them mages talking in the school. Apparently this ain' an isolated occurrence. You think some lout is screwing with the mages?"
"Well, given the reports that I've read about this certain anomaly, it has happened in places all over Lankhmer. It's quite odd, as even master intersticy mages have tried and failed to open portals to the locations, and it seems to shift as well. There was also one occurrence where a portal opened after a couple of tries from the mage, and all that was there was simply black. The mage went insane after that, locked himself in his basement and refused to eat or drink. He died of starvation a while after."
"Well tha' isn' a pleasant thing to think about, thanks Tela."
"You asked, Lacio. But don't worry, I highly doubt anything will happen that doesn't already happen to us."
"So we're going to be attacked by bears again?"
"Ehm. Not what I meant, but that may be a possibility."
"Ah. Righ' then. Say, Tela, we haven' talked much before, I've been wonderin', how did you wind up doing stuff like this?"
"Hrm... Well, I guess when I was growing up in Actinosus, I was home schooled by my mother. I was the son of a merchant and a elemental mage, so naturally, I had learned parents who did well to teach me. When I was a teenager I had discovered that I had the influence of magic in my veins, which goes to show that your family does really influence your life. So, when I was old enough, my parents allowed me to enroll with the Elemental School in Actinosus. I studied there for a long time, up until I was twenty-eight years of age. Up until then I had been studying elemental magic, obviously, fire and water, but I digress. I had begun studying magical locations and artifacts, which lead me to start doing research on the topic. As I continued my research on a self-refilling pool of water out in the deserts of Achea, I was able to locate it and go to the court to propose a journey to it and see if it existed. I found it, ran a few... Tests on it, and came back to Actinosus and reported my findings, currently being documented in the Elemental School of Magic's library. The courts were so pleased with my work they offered me a position a state mage and a job as an explorer, which I took and made some friends along the way, like Salazhar. Now... Here I am."
"Huh. Well I guess tha' explains it."
"Hrm, yes I believe it does. Anyway. We should be getting to sleep, we'll be there at our destination tomorrow."
"Aye, goodnight Tela. May Bacidicar keep you working for the Empire."
"And to you as well, Lacio. Goodnight."
As the two finish their conversation, they slowly depart from the area around the fire, off to their own bedrolls. They climb into the soft and warm beds made of cloth and fur, keeping them protected from the effects of nature around them. After a night of rest, and the fire had been properly extinguished, the band of men rise in the morning and depart to finally finish their journey to the top of the Western Mandoran mountains.
